Forsyth Park's Savannah Gardens at Victorian Mansion Inn | Savannah GA

Life in a garden!  That’s what it’s like to live or vacation in Savannah near Forsyth Park.

During your stay at Amethyst Inn at Sarah’s Gardens you will especially enjoy the Savannah historic district’s garden beauty. Only 2 short blocks away from lush gardens in Forsyth Park, our "Painted Lady" Victorian Savannah mansion is convenience to the very walkable 2.5 Savannah Historic District -- the largest urban historic district in the United States.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: The city’s colonial lands to Gaston Street were reserved for homes, churches, shops, mills, markets and offices. A small backyard-style flower garden was typical at each family residence.
Away from the modest homes, however, were five acres garden plots, designated on surveyed garden lands surrounding the planned City of Savannah. These garden plots were located from Gaston Street south, from West Broad Street (now Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) west, and from East Broad Street east.

Architecture in Savannah's first suburb (south of Gaston Street) is very much like the New Orleans Garden District.
